Abstract

Farmers Producers Organizations (FPOs) are emerging as a structure, which is indispensible in the development arena of agriculture and rural development programmes. In order to document this model for identifying the factors associated with performance and arriving at implicative strategies for further scaling up, four FPOs functioning on horticultural crops were selected. The office-bearers and producer members of these FPOs (60) were contacted for their perception about performance of FPOs and associated factors. Friedman non-parametric method was used to assess the significance (at p<0.05) among various sub-groups individually for different profile characteristics and perceived performance. Co-efficient of contingency statistics was computed to study the association between profile characteristics and performance indicators. Implicative strategies were arrived-at from the results, for refinements to be made in the structure and functions of FPO model, so that their implementation may be effectively attempted for further scaling up.
