Study on Awareness and Perception of Farmers about Soil Health Card in Katihar District

Abstract

Soil is the basic component of agriculture which contains nutrients and provides to proper growth of crops. An On Farm Trial was designed upon the topic “Study on Awareness and Perception of farmers about Soil Health Card” during the year 2022-23 by KrishiVigyan Kendra, Katihar. A Soil Health Card displays soil health indicators and associated descriptive terms. . The total 120respondents were selected purposively, the data were collected with help of well-structured interview schedule following personal interview method and data were statistically analyzed. The study revealed that in category of distribution of respondents according to awareness about SHC, Technology option-1: Farmers not having soil health card shows that the Awareness level of 70% farmers found in low category, 27% farmers in medium category and 3%farmers in high category. In technology Option-2: Farmers having Soil Health Card the awareness level of 3% farmers was found in Low category, 10%farmers in Medium Category and 87% farmers in High Category. In category of distribution of respondents according to their perception regarding SHC, Technology Option -1: Farmers not having soil Health Card shows that 88 % Farmers in less favorable category, 7%farmers in favorable category and 5% farmers in most favorable category. InTechnology Option -2: Farmers having Soil Health Card 0% farmers found in less favorable condition, 23% farmers stated that it was favorable, and 77% farmers stated it most favorable condition. In category of distribution of respondents according to their constraints expressed by farmers in utilizing Soil Health Card,86% farmers gave first rank (Mindset about traditional fertilizer use pattern) , 71% farmers ranked second (Distance from Field to Lab). 65%, farmers gave third rank (fear about change in productivity).
