Study On Aspirations Of Rural Youth And Their Attitude Towards Rural Developmental Activities In Koppal District Of Karnataka State

Abstract

Youth are the most potent segment of the population of a country. They have been playing quite a significant role in almost every country of the world as they possess the zeal and vigour necessary to create opportunities for national development. The study was conducted in Yalburga, Kustagi, Gangavathi, and Koppal taluks of Koppal district during 2018-19. Three villages from each taluk were selected based on the presence of an active youth club. From each village, 10 respondents were selected based on their membership in the youth club to make the sample size of 120 respondents. The important findings of the study were that 27.67 percent of rural youth aspired to education up to SSLC followed by 26.00 percent aspired to education upto a degree. The majority of the rural youth (62.83%) aspired to take up farming as their occupation. Further majority of rural youth ranked agriculture (crop production) as Ist in the order of preference to different enterprises. And a large percentage (68.00%) of the respondents had medium general aspirations. A majority of the rural youth (76.50%) had favorable attitude towards rural developmental activities. enterprise aspiration and general aspirations of rural youth with independent variables like education, annual income, extension contact, economic motivation, and achievement motivation. Whereas, a negative and significant relationship was observed between the educational aspirations of rural youth and age. Cent percent of the respondents expressed that rural developmental activities are ‘Risky and time-consuming’.
