Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can be defined as a basket of technologies, which assist or support in management (storage, processing of data) and dissemination of information. Over the last two decades, India’s agriculture sector has been transformed from the traditional to modern practice through the effective deployment of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). ICT are most natural allies to facilitate the outreach of agri-extension system in the country. Application of ICTs playing important role in disseminating agriculture information to farmers and farm communities to improve productivity and economic, social and environmental sustainability.ICT initiatives in India include e-Extension, Agrisnet, Digital green, e-Sagu, Agmarknet, iKisan, Village Knowledge Centers, Kisan Call Centers, SMS Portal/mKisan portal, e-NAM, KisanRath, IMD Agro-Advisory,social media tools etc.
