Malnutrition develops from deficiencies, excesses or imbalances in an individual’s nutritious food intake. Women, infants, children, and adolescents are at particular risk of malnutrition. The prevalence of malnutrition may be because of poverty and the lack of access to resources. A programme on “Nutrition Smart Village” was initiated to strengthen the as a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The initiative was to adopt and transform 75 villages to nutri-smart villages by Central Institute for Women in Agriculture (ICAR-CIWA). Nutri-Smart Village programme was implemented in 12 states and 13 centres by ICAR-CIWA. All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP)-Women in Agriculture, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad adopted five villages in 2021. Kalkeri is one of the adopted village under the nutri-smart village programme. For nutri-gardens Brinjal, Tomato, Chilli, Cauliflower, Cucumber, Ridge gourd, all green leafy vegetables, fruit plants namely sapota, guava, lime, papaya, pomegranate and medicinal plants chakramani soppu, satavari, aloevera, mint, lemon grass etc were distributed. For nutri-farming encouraged growing millets as intercropping in Mango orchids, vegetables in sugarcane and border fruit plantations.
