Krishi Vigyan Kendras Play Pivotal Role in Capacity Building of Farmers

Abstract

Krishi Vigyan Kendras play prominent role in agricultural development by disseminating agricultural technologies among rural community not even farmers but also to the other artisans and rural unemployed youth. They impart learning through work experience concerned with technical literacy, the acquisition of which does not necessarily require as a precondition the ability to read and write. Krishi Vigyan Kendras impart training to those extension agents who are already employed or to practicing farmers and other stake holders etc. Krishi Vigyan Kendras cater to the needs of those who are already employed or those who wish to be self-employed. There is no uniform syllabus and programme of each Krishi Vigyan Kendra to be tailored according to the felt needs, natural resources and the potentials for agricultural growth in that area. Agricultural production is the prime goal of Krishi Vigyan Kendras with work experience as the main method of imparting training focusing on the weaker section of the rural community. The objective is to influence the productivity to achieve social justice for the neediest and deserving weaker sections of the society like small and marginal farmers, agricultural labourers, drought, and flood affected farmers, rural artisans and so on. Need based training courses are designed for different types of clienteles. Capacity building courses are based on the information received through family and village survey. After the training, follow-up extension programmes are organized for converting the acquired skills of the trainees into practice. While designing the courses on capacity building, the concept of farming system is considered to make the enterprises commercially viable. At present 731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras are functional in our country and 23 Krishi Vigyan Kendras are working for agricultural and allied fields’ development in Haryana.
