Knowledge and Awareness on Nutrition of SHGs Members of Banda District of Bundelkhand Region, U.P.

Abstract

Self-Help Groups (SHGs) it can be characterised as a self-governing, peer-controlled information group of individuals with similar socioeconomic background and a willingness to work together to accomplish a common goal. Nutrition is the science that explores the relationship between food and the body's growth, development, maintenance, and overall health. The food we consume provides the energy and nutrients necessary for our body's and physiological processes. The present study was conducted on SHGs members in Badokhar Khurd Block of Banda district of Bundelkhand region. Exploratory research design was followed in the present study. The total 1128 SHGs are registered in Block. Selection of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) was based on two major criteria that the SHG had to be at least three years old, and the CIF of the SHGs had to be more than Rs. 50,000/-. The 5% of SHGs (total 31 SHGs) were selected by using random sampling methods for the present study. Forty percent members of each selected SHGs with total 124 SHGs members was randomly selected as respondents. Study reviled that the majority (70.16%) possessed a medium level of overall nutrient related knowledge followed by (18.55%) low level of knowledge. Study also indicates that the majority of the respondents (59.67%) had a medium level of nutrient related knowledge, while (29.03%) of the respondents had a low level of knowledge; predominant portion of respondents (52.42%) possessed a moderate level of knowledge regarding chronic diseases followed by (33.06%) of respondents have low level of knowledge. Majority of the respondents (53.22%) have moderate level of knowledge of nutrient deficiency diseases, followed by (26.61%) of the respondents have low knowledge. These findings offer a foundation for targeted interventions and programs aimed at enhancing knowledge about nutrition and improving overall well-being within this community.
