Abstract

Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) play a pivotal role in empowering farmers and enhancing agricultural productivity across India. These centers serve as knowledge and resource hubs, relentlessly working towards improving the preparedness of farmers for various agricultural operations. With a steadfast commitment to augmenting rural livelihoods and ensuring sustainable agricultural practices, KVKs undertake multifaceted activities aimed at equipping farmers with the necessary skills, knowledge, and tools for enhanced productivity and resilience in the face of dynamic agricultural challenges. NTR district of Andhra Pradesh state is very important place for cotton, chilli, rice, Bengal gram, maize and other fruits and vegetables production. The farmers of this region are facing uncertain rains during and after harvesting and at the time of post harvest processing, endemic and epidemic problem of pest and diseases, improper nutrient management and non availability of critical inputs during peak season in crop production. To overcome all these KVK planned some of the activities viz., mobile advisory services through push message service to targeted crop based groups during season regarding various critical operations has gained good response among the farmers then followed by media communication through local television and news papers, field visits at active crop growth periods. which mainly focuses to reach the farmers with right information and technology at right time for preparing farmers to face the situation wisely and overcome the damage. Most of the farmers (60%) responded well regarding critical management practices during cyclonic alerts, epidemic pest management, nutrient management and adopted proper methodology based on push message services to targeted crop group, followed by Media communication (30%) and field visits (10%). The push message services through WhatsApp and SMS also alerted the officers of line departments for necessary services during critical periods.
