Abstract

Rapeseed-mustard crops are one of the most important Rabi oilseed crops cultivated in India. In 2022-23 Rabi crop season the production, area and productivity was 11.52 Million tonnes, 9.27 million hectare and 1203 kg/ha respectively in India. Globally, India is the third largest producer of rapeseed mustard after Canada, China and contributing to around 11 per cent of world’s total production. In India mustard is cultivated mainly in states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and West Bengal these state contributes 82.41 per cent and 88.58 per cent area and production in 2018-19, respectively (Directorate of Economics & Statistics, DAC&FW).In Haryana mustard is cultivated on 0.63 million ha. area, and production of 1.28 million tonnes and productivity 2027 kg/ha. (Directorate of Economics & Statistics, DA&FW). Cluster front line demonstrations (CFLDs) were laid out at farmers’ fields during Rabi crop seasons 435 demonstration covering 174 ha area from 2018-19 to 2021-22 with the objective to demonstrate the improved production technologies of mustard crop. The improved technologies consisted of use of newly released variety, seed treatment with bio-fertilizers namely Rhizobium and PSB culture, chemical weed management, balanced use of fertilizer and integrated pest management. The average yield was obtained was 1785 kg/ha and 1567 kg/ha in demonstrated technology and farmers practice, respectively from 2018-19 to 2021-22. The demonstrated technology gave gross return Rs. 81273, net return Rs. 52316 and benefit cost ratio 2.84 whereas farmer’s practices gave gross return Rs. 71677, net return Rs. 44677 and benefit cost ratio 2.67. The result showed that the technology demonstrated through cluster front line demonstration helped in increasing area under Rapeseed-mustard in Faridabad district of Haryana.
