Impact Analysis of Farmer Producer Organization on its member shareholders: A Case Study

Abstract

ABAD Agro Producer Company Limited in Bhergaon Subdivision of Udalguri District, Assam has altered the life of farmers by solving the problems farmers faced. It is organic based FPO. The study was carried out on Abad Agro Producer Company Limited with the objective of examining the factors affecting the socio-economic profile, extent of factor’s influence and problems faced in terms of knowledge, technical, economic and social development by the member shareholders of Farmers Producer Organization (FPO). The data pertaining to the year 2022-23 and primary data was collected from 61 member shareholders of Abad Farmer Producer Company. In the present study, non-parametric and parametric tools and techniques such as Mean, Standard Deviation, Garette ranking, Probit model and linear regression analysis were used by using the standard formula. The present study showed that FPO significantly influenced the income of farmers by providing various facilities to conduct activities spices, cereals, fruits and vegetables production, value addition, vermicompost, and fish farming. All farming activities showed a positive response to increase the income of members of the FPO. The factors such as education, age, farm size and training and inputs provided by FPO showed positive influence while hired labour had influenced negatively to the income of farmers. The major problems faced by the FPO was poor professional management, lack of computer knowledge, lack of proper government policy, mobilizations of farmers were the major problems faced by the members of the FPO. Therefore, the study concluded that to enable FPO members and management body to make wise choices on time, a suitable capacity-building strategy should be established. Also, In order to increase income and lower the state's unemployment rate, educated rural youth in the state should join the FPO.
