Formation and Strengthening of Greenery Agrotech Producer Company Limited (FPO)

Abstract

Farmer Producer Organization namely "Greenery Agrotech Producer Company Limited" was registered under Section 581A of the Companies Act 1956 on 19th October, 2020 and office is located at Malti Village, Itki Block, Ranchi District, Jharkhand. Three hundred and forty-six farmers of eleven villages of five blocks of Ranchi district of Jharkhand became the members of this Farmer Producer Organization (FPO). Board of Directors (BOD) meets once a month to review the performance and to make decisions for the future of FPO. All the administrative and strategic decisions are taken by the BOD through voting /oral consensus. This FPO make inputs available and provide technical assistance to the members. It pool produce from members, sell in the market and pay them. A mushroom spawn production unit has been set up in the FPO. Fifteen women are involved in mushroom cultivation and ten women have joined hands in value addition. Two women are marketing mushroom and its products. Most of the members are associated with vegetable farming. One farmer established vegetable nursery and another farmer established nursery of fruit plants. Root stock of mango and guava is being raised in FPO. It is supplied to various nurseries and government institutions. Technology is rapidly disseminated among the FPO members through demonstrations, trainings, regular meetings etc. Technologies are also disseminated by FPOs to fellow non-FPO farmers through field days, print media, face-to-face contact etc. In FPO, group approach is followed in cultivation, value addition and marketing. This reduces the cost of cultivation and increases the profit of members. A safe food-based technology delivery model was developed and validated through FPOs. It was out-scaled to two other FPOs. The results indicated that the effectiveness level was found at par with Greenery Agrotech Producer Company Ltd.
