Extent of Adoption of Tomato Cultivation Practices Disseminated Through KMAS

Abstract

Kisan Mobile Sandesh (KMS) or Kisan Mobile Advisory Services (KMAS) is one among several methods of ICTs working successfully for the dissemination of the latest Agri information. The present study entitled “A Study of the Knowledge and Adoption of tomato farmers registered under KMAS by KVK in Kolar district of Karnataka state” was undertaken to evaluate the Adoption of tomato farmers registered under Kisan Mobile Advisory Service. Kolar district of Karnataka state was purposively selected. An ex-post facto research design was followed for the study. Tomato farmers registered under KMAS were selected randomly to make a sample of 120 respondents. Adoption was measured by developing a schedule. Results on the extent of adoption of tomato cultivation practices indicated that the majority of respondents (45.83%) were under the medium adoption category. The results on the extent of adoption of tomato cultivation practices indicated that the majority 45.83 per cent of the respondents were under the medium adoption category followed by high (43.33%) and low (10.83%) levels. Statement analysis revealed that the majority of respondents were adopting the recommended Green Manure and Neem Seed Kernel extract and the majority of them were not adopting @ 1ml/L of Proponil for the control of spotted wilt in tomato crop. Correlation analysis revealed that there was a positive and significant relation between independent variables like education, extension contact, mass media exposure, innovativeness, economic motivation, annual income and use of ICT tools with the level of knowledge and independent variables like education, extension contact, mass media exposure, innovativeness, socio–political participation, economic motivation and use of ICT tools have positive and significant relation with the extent of adoption.
