Effectiveness of Public Departments: Livestock Services Providers in Jaipur District of Rajasthan

Abstract

An exploratory study was conducted in Jaipur district of Rajasthan to find out the effectiveness of Public Departments faced by livestock farmers in utilization of different livestock service delivery systems. Data were collected from 120 randomly selected livestock farmers through structured interview schedule. The study revealed that 71.66 per cent and 58.33 per cent of farmers got the preventive services and veterinary pharmaceutical from the public departments, respectively and a huge rate (51.66%) of them received the curative services from the public departments. 41.66 per cent of the respondents got the A.I. services, with a impressive rate (16.67%) and a concise proportion of the livestock farmers (9.16%) benefited the training and extension services, insurance and supply of mineral mixture and other supplements from the public departments, respectively. A little level of the respondents (3.33%) got the supply of fodder seed and slips from the public departments. The study revealed that the elevated weighted mean scores, the public departments were positioned first in providing health services which are comprehensive of curative services 291.94, preventive services 281.97 and provision of veterinary Pharmaceuticals 282.85, A.I. services 292.40, insurance 297.00 and in supplying mineral mixture and other supplements round the year. The public departments organize health camps in all the villages which were funded by the state government which covers treatment of animals for health and reproductive problems, vaccination and deworming and further more cattle and craft shows were organized and the best animal was awarded motivate the old livestock farmers to adopt better management practices. Additionally, the department was giving insurance facilities to the selected respondents and subsidy was given on their premium charges which are funded by the government.
