Constraints perceived by the farmers about getting agricultural information in Kota District of Rajasthan

Abstract

The use of ICT is a vital support of agricultural extension in the current scenario of a fast-changing world. It has been familiar as a vital mechanism for providing knowledge (information) and advice as input to modern agriculture. Information and communication technology is an umbrella that includes all technologies and services for manipulating and transmitting information. They reduce the workload associated with managing the information explosion. In this context the study was conducted in the Kota district of Rajasthan, the district was selected purposively from the Kota region of Rajasthan. In Kota district Ladpura block was selected purposively from five blocks of the district and six villages from Ladpura block were selected randomly. A proportional sampling method was used to obtain total number of households from each village. A sample of 399 farmers were selected for the study by using the Multistage sample technique. A well-structured interview schedule was used to elicit information from the respondents. The findings of the study revealed that among the various constraints faced by the respondent farmers in the extent of use of ICT, insufficient regional-specific information appeared as the most important constraint and based on the mean score of the responses 4.73 given the highest priority with rank first, followed by difficulty in understanding the language of ICT gadgets, insufficient servicing centers of ICTs in villages, high cost of servicing charges of ICT gadget, inadequate facilitator’s knowledge insufficient training and practical exposure towards ICTs, Low level of education, lack of awareness of benefits of ICTs, the poor economic condition of rural people, lack of technical guidance, non-availability of ICT gadgets and spare, high cost of ICT gadgets like smartphone, computers etc., inadequate internet facilities, lack of subsidies on ICT gadgets, lack of sufficient skills in usage of ICT tools by rural communities, lack of financial resources.
