Attitude of Farm Women Towards Kitchen Gardening in Bharuch District, Gujrat

Abstract

The study was carried out during 2021-22 with sample size of 120. The data were collected by personal interview method using ex-post-facto research design and simple random sampling technique. For the study two talukas Bharuch and Ankleshwar were purposively selected. The result showed that majority of farm women were in middle age group with literate education. They have farming and animal husbandry as their main occupation and annual income in between ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000. There also has small size of family, semi medium size of land holding, their membership in more than one organization, medium level of extension contact, mass media exposure, social impact, family household assets and knowledge regarding kitchen gardening, respectively. Majority of the respondents were having favourable attitude towards the kitchen gardening and followed by high and less favourable attitude. In the correlation analysis it was found that education, land holding, annual income, kitchen gardening social impact, kitchen gardening knowledge was positive and highly significant correlation with attitude of farm women towards kitchen gardening. While family size, occupation, mass media exposure, extension contact, social participation was positively and significant associated. Where age and family house holding asset were having negatively non-significant correlation with attitude of farm women towards kitchen gardening. Respondents were lack of knowledge about the major insect-pests and diseases identification and their management followed by less training provided for kitchen gardening and frequent inundation of kitchen garden during rainy season. Major suggestions given by respondents were proper knowledge should be provided regarding major insect-pests and diseases identification and their management followed by enhanced training should be given on kitchen gardening, sustainable method of pest control technique should be through, proper drainage method should be trained.
