Abstract

A study on the entrepreneurial behaviour of vegetable seed-producing farmers in the Koppal district of Karnataka was carried out during 2020-21. By following a proportionate random sampling procedure 120 farmers were selected and data was collected by personal interview method. The important findings of the study were: the majority (69.3%) of farmers had medium entrepreneurial behaviour. The majority of farmers (55.3%) belonged to the middle age category, 35.3 per cent of farmers were educated up to high school, and the majority (58.0%) of respondents were dependent only on agriculture. Seventy-two per cent of farmers were in the medium income group, 66.5 per cent of farmers belonged to the medium mass media participation category, and 59.5 per cent of farmers had medium extension participation. The majority (63.5%) of farmers belonged to the medium extension contact category, and 38.5 per cent of respondents had a medium level of cosmopolites. A positive and significant relationship was observed between the entrepreneurial behaviour of farmers and their socio-economic characteristics such as education, land holding, annual income, mass media participation, extension participation, and cosmopoliteness. The relative importance of the different components of the entrepreneurial behaviour was found that all the components of the entrepreneurial behaviour were highly significant. The majority of the respondents (100%) were facing the problem of high incidence of pests and diseases. About 46.3 per cent of respondents suggested adopting integrated pest management and integrated nutrient management. Keywords: Entrepreneurial Behaviour Vegetable Seed Producing Farmers
